I just wrote to my Senators to Support “Jason’s Law“. You can help by contacting your Senators also. It’s easy to find out who they are and drop them a letter or card to let them know you want them to Support HR2156 for more safe trucker parking.

“Jason’s Law” what is it?

Well, a funny thing happened to me on the way through Virginia mid March 2009.

I was “tweeting” one afternoon, minding my own business when I looked at my PDA Twitter Screen and it asked me, “What are you doing?” I replied:  “I’m at a fuel stop in Max Meadows, Virginia”

Well, low and behold I got a barrage of @Replies from Tweeples commenting about Virginia and the very hot topic of VDOT closing rest areas.

I didn’t have the time or the knowledge BUT, I did need to find a spot to park for the night so I agreed to comment the following day and document what I saw & what I heard that night.

The following day I sent a series of emails and pictures to whoever could use the information better than I could to help raise awareness that what VDOT was proposing was a serious public safety issue.

I had recently joined OOIDA and had corresponded through Twitter with @Land_Line_Mag to find relevant articles on the Virginia matter. (more…)

                     CRST Sexual Harassment Case

I am disturbed but glad at the same time that some women are coming forward to speak about what is happening in the trucking industry to female students.

Another twist of fate occurred while I have been trying to finish my student trucker story on “Ask the Trucker “ in a section created for me called,  A Day in the Life of a Lady Trucker .

In December 2008 I received a notification from Dallas Police Headquarters that my DNA was matched to the man who raped me in front of my small children in 1989.

Some of the difficulties I had from that crime were from the way it was mishandled by DPD in the eighties. I just last month learned more about the man who did this cowardly act.

At the time, the organizational structure I reported to and sought assistance from failed me and I did not trust them.

I carried a lot of bitterness toward this organization until about 6 years ago when I saw a woman on CNN speaking about how she took the initiative to follow up on her own rape case with the Dallas Police Department. As it turned out, a suspect was apprehended who was a radio personality and serial rapist. I learned later that Dallas, Texas had a rash of separate serial rapes that occurred in the eighties.

I was motivated to take control of my bitterness, so I called Dallas Police headquarters and with relative ease made contact with a Sergeant who listened to my story and my hostility. (more…)
