Jason’s Law

“Jason’s Law” what is it?

Well, a funny thing happened to me on the way through Virginia mid March 2009.

I was “tweeting” one afternoon, minding my own business when I looked at my PDA Twitter Screen and it asked me, “What are you doing?” I replied:  “I’m at a fuel stop in Max Meadows, Virginia”

Well, low and behold I got a barrage of @Replies from Tweeples commenting about Virginia and the very hot topic of VDOT closing rest areas.

I didn’t have the time or the knowledge BUT, I did need to find a spot to park for the night so I agreed to comment the following day and document what I saw & what I heard that night.

The following day I sent a series of emails and pictures to whoever could use the information better than I could to help raise awareness that what VDOT was proposing was a serious public safety issue.

I had recently joined OOIDA and had corresponded through Twitter with @Land_Line_Mag to find relevant articles on the Virginia matter. Continue Reading »

Everything happened so fast I have not had a chance to tell you all about Karma.

Here’s the deal!

My company has a terminal close to Dallas, Texas and a few months ago I had seen a white dog hanging around, she just sat in front of the guard shack.

Everywhere around the terminal there were signs that said “Don’t feed the stray”. I asked the guard where she came from and he told me that she had puppies and had turned up last winter begging for food. He said he believed the puppies, now about 7 months old still lived on the other side of the fence in the adjacent junkyard. In fact, on my last visit to our terminal he told me he still sees them from time to time.

The mama dog, for some reason stayed at the guard shack, she just wouldn’t leave. Whenever the guard got up to check in the trucks, she got up and stood next to him. When he opened the gate, she herded the trucks in and returned to the doorway. When he made his rounds to do inventories of trailers she followed him and stopped when he stopped. Continue Reading »

CRST

                     CRST Sexual Harassment Case

I am disturbed but glad at the same time that some women are coming forward to speak about what is happening in the trucking industry to female students.

The  35 cases of sexual harrassment at CRST is just the tip of the iceberg but the tenacity to keep the story under wraps is precisely why I wrote my student trucker story on “Ask the Trucker” .

People outside the trucking community who have read my story “A Day in the Life of a Lady Trucker” have been shocked, while people inside the trucking community can ussually add 10-15 chapters of horror story material of their own. Continue Reading »

Another twist of fate occurred while I have been trying to finish my student trucker story on “Ask the Trucker “ in a section created for me called,  A Day in the Life of a Lady Trucker .

In December 2008 I received a notification from Dallas Police Headquarters that my DNA was matched to the man who raped me in front of my small children in 1989.

Some of the difficulties I had from that crime were from the way it was mishandled by DPD in the eighties. I just last month learned more about the man who did this cowardly act.

At the time, the organizational structure I reported to and sought assistance from failed me and I did not trust them.

I carried a lot of bitterness toward this organization until about 6 years ago when I saw a woman on CNN speaking about how she took the initiative to follow up on her own rape case with the Dallas Police Department. As it turned out, a suspect was apprehended who was a radio personality and serial rapist. I learned later that Dallas, Texas had a rash of separate serial rapes that occurred in the eighties.

I was motivated to take control of my bitterness, so I called Dallas Police headquarters and with relative ease made contact with a Sergeant who listened to my story and my hostility. Continue Reading »

Why did I do it?

In the Drivers Seat

In the Drivers Seat

I have been writing my Student Trucker Story on “Ask the Trucker” since October 2008.

Although by October I was in a much different situation because I had moved from the “Team Division” into a Dedicated Solo Fleet beyond the ridiculously unsafe situations my company placed me in during my training.

In this new division I saw very quickly how things should be done. The entire manner of my new fleet was more effective because the communication and professionalism was much better. Partially because the contract DEMANDS it or the contract will be lost.

I was also driving solo finally, not required to drive & live with someone from unknown origins. Continue Reading »
